Responsibilities of the Substitute Teacher will include but are not limited to:
- Perform hearing, vision and other health screenings
- Treat students and staff as needed to address health and wellness needs
- Develop care plans for students with ongoing conditions
- Consult with teachers, school administrators and other school staff regarding student care
- Administer medication as prescribed to students
- Monitor student immunization records
- Educate students and staff on health procedures
- Help students who have feeding disabilities
- Lead efforts and implementation procedures in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak or other infectious diseases
Qualifications for Health and Wellness Coordinator
- Lead and support teachers and students with information about nutrition, including class sessions and organized events
- Teach students and families about health and wellness when considering fitness and nutrition
- Work with the Director of Operations to ensure meals provided are nutritious
- Knowledge of school laws and policies
- Ability to work independently or with others
- BLS/CPR certification
- Knowledge of state health regulations
- Ability to multitask
Skills and Characteristics
- Belief in the Breakthrough Charter School mission and educational model.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid technical skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Highly motivated and capable of seeing projects through from beginning to end.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
- A cheerful and welcoming demeanor.
- Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a “whatever it takes” disposition.
Educational Background and Work Experience
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
- Knowledge of many areas of health including mental health
